Our mission is to provide the highest quality, non-medical home care and companionship services to those who require them in the San Diego area. Through those services, we hope to improve the quality of life for our customers.

Our History

Genki HomeCare was started by the non-profit organization, Kiku. Kiku operated Kiku Gardens (now Garden Villas Senior Apartments), a 100-unit senior housing facility located in Chula Vista that has served the Japanese community in San Diego for decades. Kiku realized the growing need for affordable home care services and in 2012, it took the steps to incorporate Genki HomeCare, a non-profit organization for assisting seniors in San Diego County.

Now with over 25 caregivers from North County to South Bay, Genki HomeCare is an indispensable resource for many seniors living at home. Genki sets itself apart as a unique home care service in San Diego, distinguished by its non-profit nature, a team of trained Japanese professionals, a culturally sensitive approach tailored to home care, and robust connections with the Japanese American community and its organizations.

Meet the Team

GENERAL MANAGER: Derek Yagura

I was born and raised here in San Diego and graduated from the University of San Diego. I am a Yonsei with family all throughout Southern California. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, cheering on our San Diego Padres, and fishing.

I was introduced to Genki HomeCare services in 2019 with help for my 98-year-old grandmother. My mother was taking care of my grandmother and needed some assistance a couple days a week. The decision to have Genki HomeCare help was the best decision our family made for my grandmother at that time. To see the care, compassion, and love she received, it made my family realize how special Genki HomeCare is to our Japanese/American community here in San Diego. I was pleased to be hired as General Manager and I hope to provide the same high level of service and comfort my family experienced with Genki HomeCare.

ASSISTANT MANAGER: Maho Tuites

I am from Hiroshima, Japan and have been in San Diego since 1997. I have been working in Genki HomeCare since March 2021. It has been enjoyable and challenging working with our caregivers, senior clients, and their families. Our staff teamwork has been great because we all truly care about keeping our clients healthy, happy, and safe in their homes. During my free time, I enjoy watching Netflix, cleaning, and teaching yoga.
